Traditional patio doors are made of wooden frames. Wood is certainly an elegant frame for a door. The main drawback those with wooden frames is cost. Arguably, these doors are a lot cheaper than wooden ones. In terms of durability, aluminum beats wood. With a high tensile strength, aluminum is made to last a lifetime. It does not easily get scratched by cats or dogs like wood does; aluminum is virtually scratch-free if taken cared of properly. Longevity of aluminum cannot be questioned, too. Compared to wood, aluminum does not suffer from rot. Nor would it easily corrode. Pound for pound, aluminum doors to your patio outmatch wooden ones where toughness is concerned.
Cutting costs for home improvement is at the top of all homeowners lists because it makes the appearance of the house look better, it can increase the property value, and it provides a job to do around the home. Replacing patio doors is one of these projects that can be undertaken when the old ones get too beat up. A good patio door can be bought cheaply and installed at no extra cost by a homeowner. The very first step to getting a new patio is door is measuring the dimensions of the doorway. This will allow any door purchased to fill the space correctly. The price of not having the correct size door include lost time, paying for extra materials, and even energy being lost because of poor insulation qualities. Be sure to get the most accurate measurements and keep them close when purchasing a new door.
Remove the two screws holding the bottom section of the frame. There is one screw either side of the bottom section. Once these have been removed the bottom section can be prized away from the rest of the frame. Be careful not to lever against the glass or you could shatter it. When the bottom section is clear from the rest of the frame you will be able to remove the wheels. Some wheels have a screw holding them in and some are pressed into a holding bracket. If the retaining screws have rusted you can carefully drill them out, taking care not to make the hole in the bottom section any bigger. Contact your local Hardware Store, Glazing Shop or search on Google for replacement wheels.
